Rembrandt van Rijn (studio copy), Portrait of Rembrandt with a Gorget (c. 1629).
THE HAGUE.- Today the Mauritshuis presented the results of its research on three paintings in its collection. In the case of two of these works, it was not certain whether they were painted by the great master himself or came from his studio. All three were subjected to close examination at the museums conservation workshop, where conservation work was also performed on two of them. The research revealed a wealth of new information, including on the attribution of the paintings. The Mauritshuis is devoting a presentation in the museum to the project. Entitled Rembrandt?, the presentation can be seen in room 10. The three paintings are: Portrait of Rembrandt with a Gorget (c.1629), Study of an Old Man (c. 1655-1660) and Tronie of an Old Man (c.1630). It had been known for 25 years that this 1629 portrait is not a genuine Rembrandt. In 1999 it was discovered to be a copy of an early self-portrait by Rembrandt in the collection ... More

NEW YORK, NY.- Claes Oldenburg and Peter Moore both moved to New York in the mid1950s and were immediately struck by the citys streets, in particular the sidewalks, storefronts and signage that clamored for attention. Keenly alert to the visual assault of language and communication, Oldenburg made drawings and sculptures of storefronts, street objects and text-based posters, while Moore produced a historical record of city signage through documentary photographs. The exhibition displays key examples from these bodies of work, including pieces from Oldenburgs legendary installations The Street (1960) and The Store (1961) that interpret the urban environment depicted in Moores images. Similarly attentive to witty juxtapositions of words and phrases as well as the cycle of urban transformation and capitalist expansion, Oldenburg and Moore confronted the overall theatricality of the citys streets ... Fighting Amazon (Yellow Gate 1990), 2025, gouache and graphite on tea-stained paper, 47.25 x 31.5 inches.
NEW YORK, NY.- Derek Eller Gallery presents I Am Woman Inflicted with the Burden of Bearing Mankind, a solo exhibition of new work by Ellen Lesperance. Continuing her exploration of the intersection of feminism, craft, and activism, Lesperance makes paintings inspired by knitting patterns worn or utilized by women involved in acts of both empowerment and struggle. For this exhibition, Lesperance mines source material related to contemporary women activists and the Amazons of ancient Greece and, as such, speaks to similarities that transcend space and time. Lesperances long-standing interest in protest knitwear originates in the Greenham Common Womens Peace Camp, an anti-nuclear movement which took place in the United Kingdom in the 1980s and 90s. Combing through archives related to Greenham Common, Lesperance discovered a trove of images of hand-knit material, often embedded with subversive, political, and feminist symbology. As a Fulbright Global Scholar (2022-24), Lesperance had t ... More

Exhibition traces the singular path of Belgian filmmaker, writer, and artist Chantal Akerman LISBON.- The Chantal Akerman travelling exhibition proposes a moving and unexpected journey through art and life, along a path marked by multiple geographies: from Brussels to border zones, from the kitchen to the desert, from burlesque to tragedy, from the sufferings of the world to those of the most intimate spheres. LAM museum acquires Sprinkle Carpet by artist collective We Make Carpets LISSE.- The LAM museum has acquired Sprinkle Carpet, a unique installation by the artist collective We Make Carpets. Composed of brightly coloured sprinkles arranged in a decorative pattern, the artwork is remarkably delicate. Even the slightest movement could transform it into nothing more than a pile of ordinary food sprinkles, commonly used as a topping for breakfast sandwiches in the Netherlands. The acquisition is now on display at the LAM museum on the Keukenhof Estate in Lisse as part of its visual arts exhibition exploring the theme of breakfast. Though much smaller in scale, We Make Carpets Sprinkle Carpet calls to mind Wim T Schippers controversial Peanut-Butter Platform. However, theres a significant difference: while Schippers aimed to shake visitors up in the late 1960s, We Make Carpets seeks to inspire wonder for the everyday. All of We Make Carpets ... More
