JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.- The Mississippi Museum of Art presents "Mary Lovelace O扤eal," on view through February 9, 2003. This exhibition is the first to survey the large-scale abstract paintings of Jackson, Mississippi native Mary Lovelace O扤eal, who chairs the art department at the University of California, Berkeley. Since the mid-1970s, O扤eal has created vibrant paintings with rich surfaces and frenzied brushwork. Organized by the MMA, the presentation of 25 years of O扤eal抯 art is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue including essays by David Driskell, Melanie Herzog, and Lilly Wei.
