Portugal Presents Dalí Exhibition

LISBON, PORTUGAL.- Portugal also joins the commemorative acts of the centennial of the birth of Spanish artist Salvador Dalí with the exhibition "Salvador Dalí in Lisbon" which showcases twenty-six original sculptures by Dalí, created between 1956 and 1983, apart from several prints from the years 1950 to 1970, many of which have never before been presented to the public. The works come from three important European collections, the Gala Dalí Foundation of Moscow, QuArt from Brussels and 2049 Contemporary Work from Bilbao. Prince Phillip of Spain was to inaugurate the CaixaForum exhibition "Dalí.  Mass Culture" as the year of Salvador Dalí begins with two shows, this one in Barcelona, with more than 400 works, and another one in Buenos Aires with 300 works as part of the activities commemorating the art genius. Salvador Dalí, probably the most eccentric artist in the history of Spanish art will celebrate next May 11, the 100th anniversary of his birth. For this occasion he is the subject of dozens of exhibitions, books and other activities that review his life and work. The Barcelona show will later go to the Queen Sophia Museum in Madrid and then to the United States and Holland. Organized by Caixaforum, the exhibition explores the relationship of Dalí with mass culture and how his visual universe reflected important economic and technological changes of the XX century that fascinated him.
