NEW YORK, NY.- The successful Outsider and Vernacular Art auction realized a total $4,261,625 selling 99% by lot and 98% by value. The auction achieved the highest sale total for the category. Henry Darger’s double sided work 148 At Jennie Richee During fury of storm are unsuccessfully attached [sic] by Glandelinians / 149 At Jennie Richee narrowly escape capture but Blengins come to rescue realized $684,500, the second highest auction price for a work by the artist and the top lot of the sale.

Other impressive results were achieved for William Edmondson’s Lady, 1930s which realized $237,500 against a high estimate of $80,000 and Bill Traylor’s Woman Pointing at Man with Cane realized $396,500 against a high estimate of $60,000. Property from the William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation and family collections realized a total of $1,395,375.

Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver and Prints achieved $7,926,500 selling 82% by lot and 94% by value. The top lot of the sale was Ammi Phillips’ Girl in a Red Dress with a Dog which realized $1,692,500, setting a new world auction record for the artist.

Other notable results included Edward Hicks’ Peaceable Kingdom which realized $1,692,500, A Pair of Portraits: A Boy and Girl with Butterflies by Joshua Johnson which soared way above its high estimate of $60,000 and realized a total of $516,500, a large Native American red-painted burlwood open-handled bowl which more than doubled its high estimate selling for $137,500 and the Powel-Griffitts family Queen Anne carved walnut compass-seat side chair circa 1750 that realized $348,500.

The Silver session of the two-day sale achieved $881,250 with an American silver-mounted 18-karat gold three-piece tea set, mark of Ubaldo Vitali, late 20th century, achieving the top lot at $62,500.

Other top lots include a Tiffany silver and mixed-metal teapot, circa 1878, which sold for $52,500, and a set of four silver-gilt 'Strawberry Boxes' designed by Van Day Truex for Tiffany, which realized $37,500, against the estimate of $3,000-5,000.

Chinese Export Art Featuring The Hodroff Collection, Part IV achieved solid results with a great deal of international bidding from several parts of Asia, all over Europe, South America and the United States. The top lot of the sale was a massive pair of painted enamel plaques, Qianlong Period (1736-95), which sold for $150,000 against an estimate of $30,000-50,000, with six bidders competing for the lot.

“We are delighted to announce two French Royal lots were acquired by and will return to the Château de Versailles – a massive pair of French Royal Armorial dishes, and a set of three graduated French Royal Armorial ecuelles and covers, circa 1735-40 (lots 389 and 390),” comments Becky MacGuire, Head of Sale.

Little Cassiobury: Collection of Susan Lyall totaled $1,885,900 with 96% of lots sold. The top lot of the sale was an Irish William IV Mahogany Four-Pedestal Extension Dining Table by Williams and Gibton, circa 1835 which realized $156,250.

“We are thrilled with the results today which reflected the elegant and sought-after taste of Susan Lyall and her beautiful home at Little Cassiobury,” comments Emily Shwajlyk, Head of Sale.

Other top lots included a pair of Huanghuali 'Official's Hat' Armchairs, Guanmaoyi, 17th-18th Century which sold for $118,750, Sir Alfred James Munnings’ ‘Gorse on Ringland Hills’ which achieved $87,500, and a pair of George II Giltwood Dragons by William Linnell, circa 1755, soared above the $2,000-3,000 estimate to realize $32,500.
