COLOGNE, GERMANY.-The fall auction Photography + Photo Works at Kunsthaus Lempertz offers historical and modern classic photos as well as contemporary photo works. The highlight of the auction is the 1920s vintage print "Esquisetum hyemale" by Karl Blossfeldt, along with Albert Renger-Patzsch and August Sander the most important representative of the "New Objectivity". There are further interesting vintages by Henri Cartier-Bresson (1950s), Alfred Ehrhardt (1930/40s), Ernst Haas (from the series of Homecoming Prisoners, Vienna, ca. 1947) and Edmund Kesting (1930s through 1950s). Other photographers included in the auction: Richard Avedon, Blanc & Demilly, Robert Doisneau, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Andreas Feininger, Lee Friedlander, Mario Giacomelli, Horst P. Horst, Yousuf Karsh, Peter Lindbergh, Herbert List, Man Ray, James Nachtwey, Irving Penn, Bettina Rheims, Herb Ritts, Franz Roh, Fotowerkstätte Schmölz, Weegee, and Ludwig Windstosser.
Noteworthy among nineteenth century photographs is the signed salt paper print "Salon of 1853, Louvre" by Gustave Le Gray. Contemporary photography includes important works by Thomas Demand, Claus Goedicke, Klaus Rinke, and Wolfgang Tillmans.
