GREEN BAY.- In response to requests to promote regional art and artists in a studio setting, the Neville Public Museum has inaugurated a new program. Studio 210 provides regional artists with a working studio space. This is an environment in which interaction with Museum visitors, through conversations and demonstrations, is encouraged. Studio 210 artists will have the opportunity to sell their artwork in Studio 210, until such time as the Gift Shop (currently closed for renovation and reorganization) reopens. In either situation, a commission on the sale of artwork goes to the Museum’s support group, the Neville Public Museum Corp. Participation is limited to artists residing in the following counties: Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Fond du Lac, Forest, Green Lake, Iron, Kewaunee, Langlade, Lincoln, Manitowoc, Marathon, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Oneida, Outagamie, Portage, Shawano, Sheboygan, Vilas, Waupaca, Winnebago (WI) or Alger; Baraga, Chippewa, Delta, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, Luce, Mackinac, Marquette, Menominee, Ontonagon, Schoolcraft (MI).

The Museum will provide three artists a reserved studio space approximately 8’ by 16’ and an 8’ table; you will need to provide your own supplies and equipment. Current facility capabilities require that studio work be limited to the following media:

Painting (oil and water media)
Drawing (clothed models only)
Textiles (weaving, textile printing—water-based media only; dye process is not possible on-site due to disposal requirements)
Jewelry (prohibited are use of kilns, soldering, glass torches, fusing ovens, open flames, etc.)
Mixed media (all materials used on site must be non-toxic)
Printing (water-based media only)
Sculpture (papier-mache, non-metal, wood with minimal sawdust—no torches, toxic paints or sealers

Studio 210 artists will be selected based upon the quality of your artwork and, once the Gift Shop reopens, the feasibility of promoting the artist and his/her work within the Shop. You will be required to provide at least one significant piece of artwork for sale in Studio 210. Selection of artists will be made by a committee comprised of Museum staff, community artists, and representatives from Northeastern Wisconsin Art Council and Art Events, Inc.

Please submit a maximum of three visual images of recent work; also, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for their return. Application deadline for the fall round of artists is Monday, July 24, 2006. All artists will be notified of the committee’s decision no later than Tuesday, August 8 and the fall program will begin the week of September 4th.
