Two Five-channel Video Installations by Mary Lucier |

Video still. Mary Lucier: The Plains of Sweet Regret.

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN.- The University of Michigan Museum of Art presents the exhibit Mary Lucier: The Plains of Sweet Regret through November 19, 2006. This exhibition by renowned American contemporary artist Mary Lucier evokes the melancholy grace and quiet grandeur of a way of life that is slipping away across the Prairies and the Plains. Employing two five-channel video installations, surround sound, and various rescued objects and artifacts, Lucier leads viewers through the empty landscape—to the birthing pens and the rodeo arenas, returning us to the West of our imaginations. Lucier’s provocative multi-media works were among the first video pieces to be collected by major museums including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Commissioned by the North Dakota Museum of Art with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Grand Forks through the North Valley Arts Council. Production funded by Create Capital and the Rockefeller Foundation. Curated by Laurel Reuter, Director, North Dakota Museum of Art.
