UTICA, NY.- Munson welcomes mixed media artist Tali Margolin to the Pratt Munson Gallery in Fountain Elms as she presents her exhibition Memories That Can Be Touched, a series of works that deal with the theme of loss, separation, and remembrance. The exhibition opens Friday, Nov. 14, with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. and is on view through Dec. 12. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
In Memories That Can Be Touched, Margolin depicts everyday items as a way to safeguard memories, to evoke a sense of intimacy and nostalgia, and highlight the void left by loss of a dear person. The completed artworks have a complex surface with many nuances and unique details that reveal themselves over time.
The large-scale works speak broadly about emotional impression, a sense of loss and absence, inviting viewers to connect on a personal and emotional level. The smaller works are more intimate. They show everyday items, imbued with shared experiences, personal memories, and associations, and holding the touch, scent, and energy of the person who once owned them. Whether it's a coffee mug, a favorite chair, or a reading glasses, they represent the fading traces of someone's presence. These works provide tangible connections to the past, transforming ordinary household objects into cherished keepsakes. Within each canvas, Margolin integrates handwritten notes that carry the unique imprint of a loved one.
I believe the theme addressed in my artworks extends beyond the gallery walls, says Margolin. With this universal experience of holding on to tangible fragments of the past, I create a space for reflection and remembrance, and invite the viewers to delve into their own emotions and personal experiences.
