A Great Moment, 1954, by Norman Rockwell.

DENVER, CO.-Eight original paintings by renowned American illustrator Norman Rockwell will be on view in the North Building of the Denver Art Museum on Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is part of a twelve-city tour across America during 2007.

The Rockwells form the core of a display of 20 original paintings featuring Scouting themes, which are on loan from the National Scouting Museum in Irving , Texas. The exhibition features other artists as well, including Joseph Csatari, George Roderigue, J.C. Leyendecker, and Remington Schuyler. The eight Rockwell paintings are part of the National Scouting Museum ’s collection of 61 original Rockwell works created for the Boy Scouts. Rockwell’s first and only salaried job was as art editor for Boy’s Life magazine, the youth magazine of the Boy Scouts of America. Subsequently he painted covers for the magazine and illustrations for annual Scouting calendars.

Saturday, October 6, is a Free First Saturday. General Museum admission is free for Colorado residents the first Saturday of each month, thanks to citizens who support the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). The Denver Art Museum is located on 13th Avenue between Broadway and Bannock Streets in downtown Denver . Museum hours on Saturday are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, visit www.denverartmuseum.org or call 720-865-5000.
