NEW YORK.- Park South Hotel (located at 122 E. 28th Street between Park and Lexington) will play host to the hotel based art fair RED DOT New York from Thursday, March 27 thru Sunday, March 30, 2008. General admission is $12. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
Approximately 45 galleries will show and sell works to the public on three adjacent floors of the Park South Hotel representing galleries from across the US and abroad. Red Dot sets itself apart by extending visibility to quality galleries and artists who might otherwise go unnoticed. They give young dealers exhibiting for the first time, along with established dealers, the chance to show works that look beyond what is currently popular and give a sneak peek at some areas outside of the mainstream.
In addition to the fair itself, there will be an opening reception on Thursday, March 27th from 7-9PM benefiting GMHC (Gay Mens Health Crisis). Tickets are $75. On Sunday, there will also be a day of panels on such topics as Collecting Contemporary Realism Now: Three Success Stories, The Fallacy of Art Appreciation and the Dilemmas of Criticism and Art Fairs: Practical Considerations and Strategies for the Future.
The Fair is in walking distance from Art Now Fair (East 30th between Park & Madison) and The Volta Show (West 34th Between 5th and 6th). Shuttle service will also run to the West Side fairs (The Armory Show, Bridge Art Fair, Pulse Fair.)
