CHICAGO, IL.- ORD: Documenting the Definitive Modern Airport is the new exhibition on view through May 1 at the
Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), in Chicago. Free and open daily, the exhibition portrays OHare as an international model of airport design.
Innovations such as a central parking garage, movable jetway bridges, and the two-tiered drive separating arrivals and departures, established OHare as the industry standard for jet-age airport design. One of the largest architectural commissions in Chicagos history, OHare was designed by architects led by C.F. Murphy Associates.
The exhibition consists of photographs that depict OHare from the 1950s through the 1980s. It includes black and white images from Hedrich-Blessing and color photographs by Robert Burley as well as a pair of Eames OHare Tandem Sling Seats, an acoustic installation of airport sounds, and a newspaper brochure with additional historical material.
The exhibition is curated by Charles Waldheim, principal of Urban Agency and director of the landscape architecture program at the University of Toronto.
Charles Waldheim has assembled an iconic collection of photographs and we hope to attract architects, engineers, lovers of modern design and everyone who has flown in or out of OHare, said Lynn Osmond, Chicago Architecture Foundation President and CEO.
