Anne Igelbrink, Specialist of European Furniture & Works of Art and Casey Rogers, Specialist of 19th Century Furniture & Decorative Art said: The sale couldnt have had a better start than Part I of the Robert Pearson Cane Collection. Fierce bidding from around the world sent prices skyrocketing to achieve multiples of their estimates and in particular for the jeweled animals and signed examples. We were also delighted that all categories saw a strong response from an array international of buyers, who reacted with spirited bidding on all fronts. The outstanding price achieved for The Maridon Museums exquisite ivory panel ($254,500) was a clear indication of the vibrancy of the European ivory market. Masterworks of the 19th century led an important group of furnishings and ceramics from an Ohio Estate, including $194,500 for Louis Solons Mintons pâte-sur-pâte vases and $116,500 for an 18th century-inspired commode by the pre-eminent ébéniste, François Linke. The romance of Napoleon and Josephine continued to excite bidders as sixteen plates with Josephines crest achieved $197,000. English furniture continued to reign triumphant and comprised half of the top ten lots with the George III commode by Chippendale achieving the top price of the sale at $578,500. We eagerly anticipate our 7 June 500 Years: Decorative Arts Europe auction, which will include Part II of the Robert Pearson Cane Collection.
