DALLAS, TX.- Samuel Lynne Galleries celebrates the duality of experience in JD Miller’s exhibition Reality to Euphoria, which opened Saturday, April 6th. Miller is praised for his 3-D technique of oil painting, allowing him to activate the canvas with layers of sculpted color.

The exhibition presents two distinct categories of Miller’s work: a selection of landscapes inspired by his travels throughout the continental U.S. and large-scale abstracts from his new Sahara and Dream Sequence series. This juxtaposition acts as an exploration of the relationships between the physical and spiritual, allowing viewers to draw their own conclusions about the nature of what is “real”.

“The landscapes are an interpretation of my real, sensory experience – what it felt like to be in the presence of such magnificent natural wonders,” says Miller, who traveled to Alaska, Colorado, California, the White Mountains, and the Texas Panhandle last year. The abstracts, on the other hand, are “direct expressions of the spirit from universal consciousness.”

Contemporary artist JD Miller combines chromatic expression with a sculptor’s application of paint to create multi-dimensional images on canvas. The result is an emotional explosion of 3-D sculptural oils that create a unique mood and signature ambiance. Traveling extensively throughout the United States, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, and Mexico, he creates everything from expressionistic landscapes to abstract reflections of the human spirit. The early basis for his visual style was formed by emulating the vivid colors and deft lines of the cartoon masters Walt Disney and Walter Lance.

In his early years, Miller studied the guitar, trumpet, and piano, playing nightclubs when he was sixteen and eventually becoming a studio musician by the time he was eighteen. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. from the University of North Texas and then apprenticed in sculpture and ceramics with master sculptor John Miller at Texas Women’s University. He studied oil painting with master colorist Liz Richardson for two years before beginning his professional painting career in 1998. In October of 2004, he founded the “Reflectionists”, a group of artists whose work mirrors the positive power of life and of the universe. He received the Rising Star Award in art from Fashion Group International in 2007. His reputation has increased dramatically in recent years, as recognition of his 3-D oil technique has become widely acknowledged by both artists and collectors alike. Miller presently works out of his studio in the design district of Dallas.
