NEW YORK, NY.- On Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 11am, Doyle New York will hold an auction of European Art, presenting fine European paintings, drawings and sculpture of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Highlighting the sale is a circa 1885 painting by Henri-Edmond Cross (French, 1856-1910) titled La Blouse Rouge (est. $150,000-350,000). This depiction of a young girl in a red blouse bathed in light from an open window exhibits Cross’s use of a colorful Impressionist pallet beginning in the mid 1880s.

By Emil Nolde (German, 1867-1956) is Drei Kartenspieler an Einem Tisch, Cospeda (est. $125,000-175,000). An early member of the German Expressionists, Nolde painted this watercolor depicting three card players in 1908 as part of a series executed in the town of Cospeda, Germany.

A masterful view of a Village in Normandy by Maurice de Vlaminck (French, 1876-1958) juxtaposes the red roofs of the houses against the dark green foliage of the trees (est. $60,000-80,000). Another work by the artist, Le Village, offers a view of village buildings beneath a dramatically painted sky (est. $30,000-50,000). Vlaminck, together with fellow Fauvists Henri Matisse and Andre Derain, worked in a palette of intense color.

By Post-Impressionist artist Gustave Loiseau (French, 1865-1935) is a circa 1923 work, La Rue de Village, Saint-Cyr-du-Vaudreuil (est. $45,000-55,000). Paul Signac (French, 1863-1935) is represented by a watercolor and charcoal depiction of Sailboats in a Harbor (est. $30,000-50,000). Cardinal's Reception by Spanish artist Luis Alvarez Catala (1836-1901) offers a view of the elegant entertainment hosted by a prince of the church (est. $30,000-50,000).

Also featured are works by Edouard Leon Cortes, Paul Gustave Fischer, Fernando Cueto Amorsolo, Eugene Galien-Laloue, Maximilien Luce, Edouard Vuillard, Francois Alfred DeLobbe, and Emilio Sanchez-Perrier, among others.
