MOSCOW.- The Moscow Museum of Modern Art in partnership with Sh. Mardjani Foundation for Support and Development of Research and Cultural Programs presents the exhibition UFA.POINT OF RETURN. The project involves 26 artists from Russia, Bashkortostan, Canada, France and Germany in whose creative work the topic of the city is one of the major motifs defining the mood, subjects and artistic technique of their artworks.
The desire to show to the Moscow public the rich and exiting art life of the city of Ufa is a principle aim of the exposition. The artworks appear in the form of an art chronicle of the city life, where the artist and his original view of the interaction of nature, city and man inside the urban community are of special importance. In order to showcase the slice of the artistic life of today’s Ufa the exhibition brings together paintings, graphic works, sculptures, photographs and video art by young artists and recognized masters of contemporary life working in various directions and styles. The image of the region acting as a thematic focus of the exposition gives birth to numerous parallels and inter-relations in works not comparable at first glance. Thus, the imagery and mood of canvases by Mickhail Nazarov overlap with monumental philosophical drawings of Camil Gubaidullin, the expressionism of Airat Teregulov and the young artist Timofei Dorofeev. Different interpretations of the portrait genre can be seen in the painting by Akhmat Latfullin, photographs of Gerd Dolhopf, in the city and village photo sketches by Sergey Barabash. The beginning of the picturesque, a special feeling of the filled with meaning emptiness in photographs by Vladimir Marochkin are almost akin to works by Rinat Voligamsi. The graphic paintings of Rais Gaitov resonate with foggy photographs of Evgeny Veidner.
The project “Ufa.Point of Return” is an ambitious attempt to unite in one space dissimilar artists, not only to emphasize their difference, but to capture the internal similarity, to reveal features typical exclusively to the Ufa art, to find parallels and interactions between the artist and the region, the city, its history and the history of its residents.
