Pinacoteca de Sao Paulo unveils unique, complete collection of Beatriz Milhazes prints

The Pinacoteca is the only museum in the world that possesses this collection of works.
SAO PAULO.— Beatriz Milhazes: A major name in Brazilian art, she is known for her work that combines geometric rigor with a consistently festive atmosphere, a result of her exuberant palette. Textile art, chita fabric, embroidery, typically Brazilian weaving, and indigenous graphic designs are references from which she draws inspiration, transforming it all into her own unique language.

“Prints from the Pinacoteca de São Paulo Collection” brings together for the first time a set of 27 prints produced between 1996 and 2019, the result of Beatriz's collaboration with Jean-Paul Russell, founder of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo. Durham Press — a printmaking studio specializing in artist books and unique artworks, based in Pennsylvania, United States.

The Pinacoteca is the only museum in the world that possesses this collection of works.

Visitors will be able to appreciate works of multiple colors, floral prints forming portals, garlands and leafy branches; and engravings by Beatriz developed alongside Jean-Paul Russell.

The artist's work is characterized by a language of complexity and beauty, and by the coherence in the way she manages to move between different techniques, always starting from painting and arriving at prints.

His works also feature sinuous forms, discs, mandalas, and beaded necklaces, enriching the Brazilian geometric tradition. The exhibition also reveals how Milhazes assembles and reassembles forms, colors, and seemingly empty spaces, such as those that appear in... The duck (1996) and Summer night (2006)

Beatriz Milhazes (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, 1960) is a painter, printmaker, and illustrator. Her artistic production, developed using different techniques and materials, is characterized by the use of color, geometric structures, arabesques, florals, and ornamental motifs. Milhazes is considered one of the most important artists in Brazil and internationally. She has participated in the Carnegie International Biennial (1995); Sydney Biennial (1998); São Paulo Biennial (1998, 2004); Shanghai Biennial (2006); and Venice Biennale (2003, 2024).
