Panel Discussion with Museum Reach Artists Commissioned by San Antonio River Foundation

SAN ANTONIO, TX.- In celebration of the city-wide opening of the Museum Reach extension of the Riverwalk, the San Antonio Museum of Art and the San Antonio River Foundation have teamed up to present a special panel discussion about the public art that punctuates the Museum Reach on Saturday, May 30, from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. David S. Rubin, the Brown Foundation Curator of Contemporary Art at SAMA, will be joined by the eight artists responsible for the twelve site-specific art installations commissioned by the San Antonio River Foundation for the new 1.5 mile stretch of the San Antonio River. The panel will feature Stuart Allen, Rolando Briseño, Carlos Cortés, Bill Fontana, Donald Lipski, Martin Richman, Mark Schlesinger and George Schroeder.

Rubin, who served on the San Antonio River Foundation’s Artist Selection Committee, will moderate an informal yet lively discussion about the concepts, methods, materials and installation challenges related to the works. “We are extremely excited about having public art projects of international significance so close to the Museum. These public works will provide many new opportunities for extending our contemporary art programming into the surrounding community,” said Rubin.

The San Antonio River Foundation has assembled a remarkable team of diverse artists that have elevated the visitor experience with world-class contemporary art.

“It is a privilege for the San Antonio River Foundation to have worked closely with the artists that have made the Museum Reach a truly amazing project,” said Kim Abernethy, Executive Director of the San Antonio River Foundation. “And now to have them all together, sharing their experience regarding concepts and installations, is a gift to the city. We hope everyone takes advantage of the opportunity to listen and learn about this unique undertaking.”
