Frieze Art Fair: Stand Prize Winner Announced, Tate Acquires New Work

LONDON.- The winner of the inaugural Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize, sponsored by Champagne Pommery, is Salon 94, New York.

Margot Heller, Chair of the jury and Director of South London Gallery said of their decision, ‘Salon 94 has brought together a careful selection of exceptional works, the relationships between individual pieces having been particularly well considered. The stand makes a strong and inspiring curatorial statement, elegantly presented.’

The following works have been acquired as gifts to the Tate Collection thanks to the The Outset /Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection: Alice Channer, "See-Thru" (2009) from The Approach, London; Zbigniew Libera, "How to Train Little Girls" (1987), from Raster, Warsaw; David Maljkovic, "Images with their own Shadows" (2008), from Annet Gelink, Amsterdam; Gareth Moore Neither Here nor There (2009), from Lüttgenmeijer, Berlin; Marwan Rechmaoui, Monument for the Living (2001–2008), from Galerie Sfeir-Semler, Beirut and Hamburg; Artur Zmijewski, Democracies (2009), from Galerie Peter Kilchmann, Zurich.

The selection panel for 2009 consists of Sir Nicholas Serota, Director, Tate; Tate Curators Frances Morris, Jessica Morgan and Ann Gallagher; Hou Hanru, Curator, San Francisco Art Institute and Joanna Mytkowska, Curator, Warsaw Museum of Modern Art.

2009 marks the seventh anniversary of the successful collaboration between Outset, Frieze Art Fair and Tate – a total of 50 works have been acquired for the national collection. The 2009 Outset / Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection is organized and funded by Outset Contemporary Art Fund with support from Le Méridien.
