Ann Meredith Barry Works At Michael Gibson Gallery

ONTARIO, CANADA.-The Exhibition “Ann Meredith Barry: Original Works on Paper, Prints and Paintings” began this past Saturday at the Michael Gibson Gallery, where it will remain on view for an undisclosed period of time. Anne Meredith Barry was born in Toronto in 1932 and studied art at the Ontario College of Art. As a student she developed a strong passion for printmaking and painting. In 1986 Anne moved from Toronto to St. Michael’s, Newfoundland where she remained for the rest of her life. There, she was inspired by the rugged beauty of the landscape and translated that roughness into lyrical, confident and colourful drawings, prints, and paintings. This exhibition features a selection of work spanning 20 years and includes prints, original works on paper and paintings. Anne was an extremely generous and energetic person - a quality that can be seen in her uplifting work. Her work is represented in many prestigious private and corporate collections across the country and exhibited extensively across the world. Elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 1995, she received an honourary degree from Memorial University in 1997 and was awarded the Queen‚s Jubilee Medal two weeks before she passed away in January 2003. Michael Gibson Gallery has represented Anne Meredith Barry since 1995. They were truly saddened by the passing of this great Canadian artist and feel privileged to present this exhibition as a tribute to her immense talent and warm spirit.
