DRESDEN.- Crystals grow before the public's eyes into a unique and opulent chandelier. The Prague-based designers Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta, who work under the name ZORYA, conceived of the festive light fixture within the framework of the project "From Dust to Glitter - or: How a Crystal Chandelier Grows" for the Bergpalais of the Kunstgewerbemuseum at Schloss Pillnitz. The design duo are growing the individual components of the chandelier onsite.

The exhibition at the Kunstgewerbemuseum of the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden is the last presentation by Tulga Beyerle in Pillnitz. The show, which is on view from 25 August until 4 November 2018, shows both the growth process of the material, a crystallizing alum, as well as the finished product. Over the course of three weeks, the genesis of the crystal chandelier can be observed and a fascinating insight into the individual stages of development can be gleaned through raw material, tools, and filmic documentation. Following the final assembly of the individual parts, the completed chandelier will be installed on 15 September as part of a ceremonial inaugural lighting in the Bergpalais.

Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta have already experimented for several years with the crystallization process of minerals and, in this way, produce unique pieces of jewelry. The exhibition project is a continuation of the concept of the jewelry collection VIRUS from the year 2011 and the largest and most detailed project based on the technique of controlled crystallization to date. ZORYA equally draw inspiration from the applied arts and traditional artisanal and artistic methods for their work as designers. Thus, the exhibition also deals with the creative and innovative potential of contemporary design and brings the combination of art, traditional handcraft, and scientific processes into a museum context. The collaboration with ZORYA is a continuation of the intensive exchange with designers from the neighboring countries Czech Republic and Poland.
