BELLEVUE, WA.- Bellevue Arts Museum presents the first solo museum exhibition from Dylan Neuwirth, a Seattle-based contemporary artist working with light, space, and interactive technologies. OMNIA, which opened October 12, represents the culmination of Neuwirths artistic journey over the past decade. The exhibition features five interconnected bodies of work that trace a metaphorical life-cycleand by implication the life of Neuwirthfrom the cosmic to the personal, including work in video, performance, sculpture, and neon.
Works for the exhibition spread throughout the Museum, starting with the exterior and extending into the digital realm. MCMLXXVII/MMXI has been mounted discreetly to the exterior of BAMs first floor, to be sought out by the curious or discovered on accident by the unwary. The second exterior work, SOURCE CODE, a neon tower of universal symbols, occupies one of the Museums recently re-opened balconies and faces directly out onto Bellevue Way. In the Forum, Neuwirth premieres a commission for BAM titled SCREENS, a major new work that provides a compelling tech-noir background to Bellevue's fall and winter streetscape.
In the Museum's second floor Boeing Gallery, BAM re-presents Neuwirths METANOIA exhibition, a searing combination of installation, virtual reality, and performance that presents the artists personal struggles through a series of representational objects, some found, some crafted. Finally, BAMs website hosts NEW FOLKLORE, an online presentation of digitally altered Flash performances mining the artists personal histories of addiction and redemption.
