LONDON.- Amongst the highlights of the Photographs section of the Photographica sale at Chiswick Auctions on November 28th, 2018 is a highly rare ‘Box of Pinups’ dating from 1965 , featuring some of the biggest names of the 60s - Mick Jagger, Andy Warhol, The Beatles, Jean Shrimpton, Cecil Beaton, Terence Stamp and Rudolf Nureyev. This book of half-tone prints was created by David Bailey, a new breed of photographer at the time. The book (lot 419 in the sale), is estimated to fetch £700-£1,000.

There are also some photographs by Terry O’Neill of Shirley Maclaine in London in 1975 and Elton John with friends in London in 1976. Phototgrapher Barrie Wentzell captured the Rolling Stones from a position on the stage, while they performed their live concert in Hyde Park in 1969. The sale also features Wentzell’s photo of Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot together in 1967.

Bruce Davidson’s picture of Marilyn Monroe and her husband Arthur Miller during the filming of Misfits was taken in 1960 and Leo Fuchs photos of Paul Newman in his car and swimming capture some poignant moments lives – captured in that moment. David Bowie’s most iconic photo Aladdin Sane in 1973 is also included in the sale. Taken by Brian Duffy, a contemporary of David Bailey, the work which has been authenticated by Brian Duffy’s son, Chris Duffy is estimated to fetch £6,500-7,500.

Other sections of the sale include one of the most recognised images of the US troops first assault on Omaha Beach during the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. The photographic work by Robert Capa, which featured in Time magazine, tells two stories, one of the landings and one of the photographer, who had to stand with his back to the fighting to capture the moment. Only one of four rolls of film made it back to London to be processed. It is estimated to fetch £1,800-£2,200.

One section of the sale shows different areas of London through the ages – a domestic view of people going about their lives, including a work called La Dolce Vita by Thurston Hopkins from 1953, featuring a chauffeur with the presumed owners poodle sat alongside him in the front seat. It ies estimated at £600-£800. There are also scenes of Picaddily Circus in 1953 and a photo taken at Paddington Station during the evacuations of children during the war.
