Bonhams announced that Muys Snijders will join the company as the Head of Americas of the Post-War & Contemporary Art Department.
Based in Madison Avenue in New York, Ms Snijders will take up this new position with immediate effect. She will be responsible for leading all Bonhams Post-War & Contemporary Art business in America, furthering Bonhams relationships with consignors and buyers, and expanding the business into new services and capabilities in this highly competitive area of the art market.
Ms. Snijders joins Bonhams from Christies, where she worked in a great variety of roles, including most recently as the Managing Director of Christies Americas. Prior to this role, she worked in the New York Post War & Contemporary Art Department where, as Global Client Strategy Director she oversaw the sourcing and sales management of 45 auctions annually, as well as private sales and ecommerce for Post-War & Contemporary worldwide in her capacity as Business and Private Sales Director.
Ms. Snijders holds an MA in Art History and Classical Archaeology from Leiden University in the Netherlands, as well as an MA in Arts Management from Greenwich University and an MA in Art Market Appraisal from Kingston University in the United Kingdom.
Muys is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Leadership Program for China from Harvard Business School, Tsinghua University in Beijing, and CEIBS in Shanghai. She has been involved in the auction business since 1998, and has worked in London and Amsterdam, as well as New York. Muys is multilingual and a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
With more than 20 years of experience working in the art market globally, Muys is extremely well suited to lead the Post War and Contemporary department and to grow our overall business in the Americas, Matthew Girling, Bonhams Global CEO said. Moreover, Muys held key positions in Client Advisory, Estates, Appraisals & Valuations and the Chairmans office which places her uniquely to advise clients on the entire spectrum of our business.
