LOS ANGELES, CA.- Richard Prince announced the debut of Katz + Dogg, his elite cannabis brand, which was created in partnership with the award-winning 710 Labs. Katz + Dogg now available in flowers, vape pens, and pre-rolled joints at high-end dispensaries across America, making Prince the worlds first artist to have his own line of marijuana.
Katz + Dogg packaging features signature drawings from Princes celebrated Hippie Drawings and High Times paintings series. Inside, the products contain 710 Labs Shire strain, alongside its Ice Cream Cake and OG.
Best thing about the cannabis plant is how it brings people together. The fact that it brought us to working with such an iconic artist as Richard Prince is a blessing, said Brad Melshenker, 710 Labs founder.
Princes cannabis brand takes its name from John Dogg, one of Princes known pseudonyms. Princes desire to create a cannabis line dates back to at least 2005, when the first book of Hippie Drawings debuted.
Richards new drawings tapped into the excitement and innocence we wanted Katz + Dogg to reflect, said Joan Katz, a longtime friend of Princes, and a collaborator on the project. Just as kids have a way of pulling you in, even when theyre deep in their own creative thing, cannabis can aid in carving out your own headspace. But its also inherently social, bringing all of us freaks together.
The release of Katz + Dogg cannabis coincides with an exhibition Princes Hippie Paintings at Gagosian San Francisco. An associated collection of kimonos by Darren Romanelli, who is also known as DRx and Dr. Romanelli, will be available exclusively at Forty Five Ten in Aspen. Romanellis Katz + Dogg kimonos were created by from upcycled 1980s cats and dogs shirts sourced from eBay. Select items from his flower power- and pet-inspired Katz + Dogg apparel will also be available at the Gagosian Shop in New York.
Richard Prince is perhaps best known for his 1980s "Cowboy Photographs, which appropriated magazine advertisements for Marlboro Cigarettes, cutting out the branding and leaving only beautiful wilderness and complicated masculinity. His foray into marijuana is at the nexus of many of his artistic interests. More details on the product can be found at
