BERLIN, GERMANY.- Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife, Crown Princess Mary, toured Berlin's restored Alte Nationalgalerie on Monday on a one-day visit to the German capital. The royal couple was expected at Berlin's city hall later Monday for an event at which six Germans will be named goodwill ambassadors for next year's bicentennial of the birth of Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen.
Mary married the heir to Europe's oldest throne in a lavish ceremony in Copenhagen on May 14. In addition to touring the Alte Nationalgalerie, which houses a prestigious collection of 19th century art and was reopened after restoration in 2001, the couple planned to visit an exhibition of contemporary art put together by German collector Friedrich Christian Flick. The crown prince and princess were due to unveil three works by Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson at the Danish Embassy.
