ANTWERP, BELGIUM.- The Belgian International Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival, which runs until January, features scenes from paintings by Peter Paul Rubens. There are scenes from the Abduction of Ganymede to Jesus on the cross to adoring shepherds. The theme for the festival is The World of Rubens. The sculptures were created by 40 sculptors. According to Alexander Deman, who organized the event, it took five weeks to set up.
He stated, "The first week was the set up of the tent, isolation, the cooling. The second week was the arrival of the ice blocks and the snow. We had about 28 big trucks of snow and ice arrive here, and the last three weeks of the construction period was the sculpting."
