Special Topics Art Class on Museum's Exhibition

PARMA, OHIO.- Cuyahoga Community College and the Cleveland Museum of Art will collaborate to present a new Tri-C Special Topics Class, "Art Beyond Isms: Masterworks from El Greco to Picasso from the Phillips Collection." The class will be offered in Session B of the Spring Semester, Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 21 through May 16, from noon to 1:50 p.m. at Tri-C's Eastern Campus in Highland Hills, Metropolitan Campus near downtown Cleveland and Western Campus in Parma.

Team-taught by Tri-C faculty and Cleveland Museum of Art experts, the course includes material on French and Spanish culture, society and intellectual life, and 19th and 20th century European visual arts from Realism to Modernism and their relation to other art forms. Nine of the 15 classes will take place at the Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Boulevard in Cleveland.

The course centers on the Cleveland Museum of Art exhibition "Masterworks from the Phillips Collection," on display at the museum from February 20 through May 29. The Phillips Collection features 56 European paintings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its centerpiece is Auguste Renoir's "Luncheon of the Boating Party," a work that rarely travels outside this collection.

Also included in the collection are pieces by Paul Cezanne, Edgar Degas, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, George Braque, Odilon Redon, Henri Matisse and others. Works by Degas, Van Gogh, Braque and Redon will be hung adjacent to similar compositions by the same artists from the Cleveland Museum of Art's collection, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to compare these pictures.

To participate in this special course, you must be a registered Tri-C student. For information on applying for admission to Tri-C, call the Admissions and Records Office at Eastern Campus at (216) 987-2024, Metropolitan Campus at (216) 987-4200 or Western Campus at (216) 987-5150. Registration for Session B classes runs through March 19.
