Ketterer Kunst announces Covid-19 aid online only charity auction for Ethiopia
Joint work by Airbus trainees, Gastropoda. Acrylic on canvas, 2020. 170 x 199 cm / 66.9 x 78.3 inches. Starting price: € 100.

MUNICH.- Marc Chagall, Damien Hirst, Paul Klee, Daniel Richter and Oskar Schlemmer – the joint work of 12 Airbus trainees that will be auctioned for the benefit of humedica e.V. – is in good company. Proceeds of “Gastropoda“ will be used to support medical staff fighting Covid-19 in Ethiopia. The acrylic work will be called up with a starting price of € 100 in the Online Only Auction on www.ketterer-internet-auctions.com from June 1 to June 15. The complete range comprises around 100 works of art from the 20th and 21st century.

“I am very happy that we – together with the Airbus Foundation which supported the trainees on this project – are able to make a contribution to help those in urgent need of relief in these days“, says Robert Ketterer, auctioneer and owner of Ketterer Kunst. “Art has set free tremendous creativity. It does not only provide food for thought but also sets a sign of solidarity.“

Under the guidance of the artist and graduate design engineer Robert Matzke, the joint artwork was made early this year in context of a seminar on the topic “The World of Tomorrow“. Contributing Airbus trainees are Isabel Buchstab, Philipp Kappus, Nils Klinger, Levi Koers, Markus Neugebauer, Anna Schulte, Vittorio Serra, Nico Stibbe, Hedda Uden, Sebastian Veigl, Marcel Warzecha and Ole Weber. “Redefing the concept of home“ was the core theme of the project that produced the striking and associative work “Gastropoda“ on the island of Juist in the North Sea.

In the face of the current exceptional circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Airbus Foundation could win Ketterer Kunst to auction the trainees‘ large-size work for the benefit of humedica e.V. The registered association with a focus on disaster operations and medical care provides humanitarian aid around the world. It has been supported by the Airbus Foundation with, among others, relief flights for many years.

Many people in Germany and Europe fear that the current situation will change their home country the way they know and like it. Next to the family‘s well-being, the business situation is a likewise urging matter and anxieties revolve around the health of loved ones, job perspectives and the own subsistence. However, poorer countries around the globe are also affected by COVID-19 and need aid and support from those who live in safer circumstances and benefit from better healthcare. This is why proceeds of “Gastropoda“ will go to the support of medical staff in Ethiopia.

“Gastropoda“ shows a heart-stomach hybrid creature carrying its home like a backpack running between into a both uncertain and yet promising future between the two extremes of a stacked trailer park culture and a high-tech skyscraper skyline. A relatively small flying object from Airbus, into which the home would impossibly fit, hovers above the scene. This is a perfect visual take on the concept of ‘home is where the heart is‘.

Next to the contemporary artwork by the Airbus trainees, the Online Only Auction KETTERER‘s 100 offers a rich range of around100 fascinating works by renowned artists such as Horst Antes, Ernst Barlach, Joseph Beuys, Willi Baumeister, Otto Dix, Lyonel Feininger, Günther Förg, Sam Francis, Günter Fruthrunk, Rupprecht Geiger, George Grosz, Adolf Hölzel, Paul Kleinschmidt, Oskar Kokoschka, Max Liebermann, Henry Moore, Takashi Murakami, Helmut Newton, Mimmo Paladino, Otto Pippel, Mel Ramos, Christian Rohlfs, Otto Piene, Sigmar Polke, Gunter Sachs, Antoni Tàpies, Günther Uecker, Maurice de Vlaminck, Victor Vasarely, Jorinde Voigt, Fritz Winter and Herbert Zangs.
