HONG KONG.- Sotheby’s Wine will present three exceptional sales in Hong Kong from 5 to 7 July, which opens the Sotheby’s Hong Kong Spring 2020 auction series, and brings to the market nearly 3,000 lots with a combined pre-sale estimate of HK$120-169 million / US$15-22 million.

Adam Bilbey, Head of Sotheby’s Wine, Asia, states: “We are proud to open the 2020 Spring Sale series in Hong Kong with two unmissable single-owner wine sales: Magnificent Bordeaux from the Cellar of Sir Dickson Poon offers some of the very finest Bordeaux in enviable depth; The Summit, A Complete Cellar is one of the greatest collections of top Burgundies and Rhônes to come to market, with an incredible selection of large formats. This season’s Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits brings a plethora of much sought-after Scotch and Japanese whiskies, as well as Kweichow Moutai, with a diverse offering catering to all tastes and budgets.

The sale will present a magnificent selection of wines from the private cellar of renowned international businessman, Sir Dickson Poon, featuring over 490 lots with a combined estimate in excess of HK$13 Million / US$1.7 Million.

Focused on Bordeaux, Sir Dickson Poon’s collection brings some of the very finest Chateaux and certain great vintages of the 80s and 90s in depth, with the majority still in their original wooden cases. Sir Dickson’s close link with the United Kingdom means he was able to source great quantities of the finest Bordeaux from trusted UK merchants and auction houses including Sotheby’s, in original cases and in many instances, on release. With the stock lying under perfect storage conditions at a bonded warehouse in the UK, this is a rare chance to acquire from one of the finest collections of Bordeaux in the world.

The Summit, A Complete Cellar

The Summit, A Complete Cellar is Sotheby’s second highest estimated single-owner wine sale in Asia, which offers more than 1,500 lots of wines with a combined estimate in excess of HK$78 million / US$10 million. The extraordinary collection originates from the cellar of an American wine collector, and was assembled over three decades through a deep passion for gastronomy, extensive travel, as well as the collector’s personal relationships with many wine producers, which granted him privileged access to some of the rarest and most exclusive wines in the world.

Highlighted by a star-studded collection of the finest Burgundies and Rhônes, the quality and depth of this collection is beyond imagination. The sale is also distinguished by astonishing quantities of exceedingly rare large-formats spanning Burgundies (nearly 200 lots including 21 from DRC), Rhônes (56 lots led by the much sought-after Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Ermitage Cuvée Cathelin), Bordeaux (38 lots), Champagne (29 lots) and more. Iconic vintages from top chateaux such as Lafite 1959, Petrus 1989 and 1990, and Le Pin 1990, highlights the Bordeaux offerings, while a dazzling selection of Champagne, including parcel quantities of the great 1996 vintage from Salon, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne and Philipponnat Clos des Goisses, rounds off the sale.

Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits

This season’s Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits sale comprises over 790 lots estimated in excess of HK$28 million / US$3.5 Million.

Led by large formats of highly sought-after Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including 1999 La Tâche in jeroboam and 2003 Romanée Conti in magnum, the sale also features a superb collection of Harlan Estate covering two decades from the Magnificent Cellar of Park B. Smith, a rare assembly of Vega Sicilia Unico spanning six decades and blue chip Burgundy and Bordeaux from Leroy, Rousseau and the First Growths.

Whisky highlights include The Macallan 60 Year old in Lalique, 6 Pillars, The Macallan Exceptional Single Cask 2018/ASB–1683/13 1950, and Bowmore Number 1 Vaults 50 Year Old 1966. Alongside these, a fine collection of the famed Chinese Spirit Kweichow Moutai from as far back as the eighties are also on offer.
