BERLIN, GERMANY.- A group of protesters poured paint outside Friedrich Christian Flick's modern art collection at the Hamburger Bahnhof museum. The works of art were not damaged. This makes it the third time the exhibition is the target of protestors. This time protesters left a note that protest marked the 60th anniversary of the liberation of death camp Auschwitz. Christian Flick's grandfather, Friedrich Flick, supplied the Nazis with arms and steel. He was sentenced to seven years in prison during the Nuremberg Trials for his exploitation of slave labor and confiscation of Jewish property in 1947.
The Friedrich Christian Flick Collection, one of the most important collections of contemporary art in the world, will be presented to the public for the first time in a large-scale special exhibit. The exhibit, which will last until 28 March 2005, will present an initial cross-section of about 400 works from the collection of Friedrich Christian Flick and will cover the entire exhibit area of the Hamburger Bahnhof including the reconstructed Rieckhallen.
Following this opening exhibit, Flicks entire private collection of over 2.000 works, on loan to the Hamburger Bahnhof for a period of seven years, will be shown in the Rieckhallen in successive exhibits changing on a yearly basis. The focus of this collection of unique quality and scope is the art of the second half of the 20th century, art from painting and sculpture to photography and video and large-scale installations. Alberto Giacometti, Bruce Nauman, Martin Kippenberger, Luc Tuymans, Cindy Sherman and Pipilotti Rist are only a few of the excellent artists whose works are represented in the collection.
