Monks Will Create A Sand Mandala |
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.- For three days, fourteen Tibetan monks of the Gyuto Tantric University will work to create a sand mandala in the traditional Yamantaka format at the UCLA Hammer Museum. The public is invited to observe the monks during special viewing hours as they work on the mandala. The monks will conclude their residency with a closing ceremony on Friday, March 8 at 6:30 pm. The audience will then be invited to join the monks at Will Rogers State Park Beach the following morning for a traditional scattering of the sand over the ocean. Representing an order founded in Tibet in 1474, the Gyuto monks are currently based in Bomdilla, India. The Gyuto Monks’ residency at the Hammer Museum is held in conjunction with their performance at Royce Hall on Saturday evening, March 9.
