ASPEN, COLORADO.- The Aspen Art Museum presents Kendell Geers: Hung, Drawn and Quartered, through April 10, 2005. Since the late 1980s, Kendell Geers has established himself as one of the most provocative artists in the world. Born in the highly charged South African city of Johannesburg, Geers employs a fully integrated approach to art and life, calling into question his own conflicted ancestry as a white South African.

Geers has developed a hybrid practice that resides somewhere between conceptual art and political activism. His work repeatedly investigates ideas of power, class, and social injustice. Through interventions, long-term performances, installations, photography, drawings, and video works, Geers places viewers in uncomfortable spaces, building on physical, political, and psychological tensions. The body of work presented in Hung, Drawn and Quartered is particularly informed by the recent Iraq war. Geers has exhibited extensively around the world, most notably in the 1999-2000 Carnegie International in Pittsburgh and Documenta 11 in Germany in 2002.

Organized by the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, and curated by Associate Curator Matthew Distel. Made possible with the support of Allan Berliant & Jennie Rosenthal Berliant and Cinergy Foundation. Aspen presentation sponsored by the AAM National Council.
