Maria Altman Mediates Works With Austrian Government |

LOS ANGELES, CA.- Maria Altman, 89, is currently mediating with the Austrian government in federal court to recover family paintings stolen by the Nazis.
Don Burris, an attorney for Altmann, said, "I can confirm that there is a mediation and it's court-ordered." He also commented that representatives from the Austrian government and the Austrian Gallery were present at the mediation.
According to the Austria Press Agency Austrian historian and professor Dieter Binder was the court-appointed mediator.
After the Nazis came into power the seized the possessions of the Altmann family. The Altmanns escaped to America. According to the Austrian government, Adele Bloch-Bauer, Altmanns aunt, donated the artworks to the government gallery before she died.
