New York is still the crib of Contemporary Art

NEW YORK.- The Brooklyn Museum is currently mounting an exhibition of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, an acclaimed painter, whose art of signs and symbols penetrates the viewer’s deepest emotions. Basquiat died of a narcotic overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. As Robert Hughes said in his American Visions, “The only thing the market likes better than a hot young artist is a dead hot young artist.”

However, whereas New York’s contemporary fine artists are very much alive, alas, they’re not all lucky enough to be discovered a la Basquiat. “Vita brevis, Ars longa!”
That’s why it’s crucial to support NURTUREart Non-Profit, Inc., the New York City-based fine arts services organization dedicated to nurturing the careers of nearly one thousand career-track emerging fine artists and curators from around the world.

NURTUREart’s name is its mission. The objective –to counteract the “starving artist” syndrome and help talented artists and curators become full-time, self-supporting professionals.

Since it’s founding by George J. Robinson in 1997, NURTUREart has presented innumerable events, such as multi-cultural, multi-media fine art exhibitions, artist’s talks, slide lectures, workshops, symposia, and portfolio reviews. Nurturance includes fostering an appreciation for, and comprehension of, contemporary fine art among the general public, and making contemporary fine art more accessible. NURTUREart has mounted exhibitions in New York City neighborhoods devoid of a single art gallery or museum, often reaching out to children with tailored programs.
