VIENNA, AUSTRIA.- The Österreichische Galerie Belvedere presents New 1, on view through August 28, 2005. The exhibition at the Atelier Augarten presents acquisitions from the last three years. During this period there have been important additions to the collection of contemporary art at the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. These were acquired mainly with support from the Federal Gallery Support fund, but also through gifts and loans. They include a very sensitive film by Markus Schinwald (born 1973) called Children´s Crusade that he made last summer at the Mölkerbastei in Vienna. It shows a group of singing children following a life-sized puppet, whose face eerily keeps changing. The scenery is accompanied by Benjamin Britten's opus 82 and creates links with the Children's Crusades, the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin and the tragic tale of a lost orphan in the Warsaw Ghetto. There are also works by Günter Brus, Gelatin, Roza El-Hassan, Jakob Kolding, Elke Krystufek, Dorit Margreiter, Jonathan Monk, Paul Petritsch / Nicole Six, Lisl Ponger, Florian Pumhösl, Ugo Rondinone, Mathias Poledna, Ann-Sofi Siden, Martina Steckholzer, Esther Stocker, Franz West und Erwin Wurm.
