DUBAI.- Green Art Gallery announced that the works of Hera Büyüktaşcıyan and Chaouki Choukini have entered the collection of Centre Pompidou, Paris, France.

Hera Büyüktaşcıyan integrates metaphors from local myths and historic and iconographic elements of different geographies to open up new narrative scopes. She locates the figure of the Other between the twinned spectres of absence and invisibility in order to weave connections between identity, memory, space and time.

Since the late 1960s, Chaouki Choukini has developed an astoundingly consistent aesthetic worldview. His sculptural works, mainly in wood but occasionally in marble or stone, range from horizontal Lieux and Paysages to upright, anthropomorphic, almost totemic figures.

Hera Büyüktaşcıyan was born in Istanbul in 1984, and graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Painting department in 2006. She was awarded the Emerging Artist Prize at the Toronto Biennial of Art in 2019. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions at The British Museum, London, UK (2021); Protocinema, Istanbul (2021); Centre dárt contemporain, Passerelle, France (2020); Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (IFA) Gallery, Berlin, Germany (2019); and Kamel Lazaar Foundation, Tunis (2019) among others.

Büyüktaşcıyan has also participated in various biennials including: Biennale of Sydney 2022, Australia (forthcoming); New Museum Triennial, New York, NY (forthcoming); Autostrada Biennale, Kosovo (2021); Lahore Biennale, Pakistan (2020); Singapore Biennale, Singapore (2019); Toronto Biennial of Art, Toronto, Canada (2019); GIGANTISME, Dunkirk, France (2019); Dhaka Art Summit, Bangladesh (2018); EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial, Ireland (2016); Istanbul Biennial, Turkey (2015); and the 56th Venice Biennale, Italy (2015).

Her works can be found in the collections of The British Museum, London, UK; Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, Istanbul, Turkey; The Gori Collection, Santomato di Pistoia, Italy; and Vehbi Koç Foundation, Istanbul, Turkey.

Born in 1946 in Choukine, Lebanon, Chaouki Choukini received his degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris in 1972. He was awarded the Prix de la Jeune Sculpture in 1978, followed by the Taylor Foundation Prize in 2010. He was also awarded the Prix de la Fondation Pierre Gianadda, from de l’Academie des Beaux Arts, France in 2015. Choukini has exhibited in various museums and institutions including: Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE (2021); Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris, France (2018); Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE (2017), Musée de l’Hospice Saint-Roch, France (2014); Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris, France (2012); Cairo Biennial, Egypt (1997); and Centre de Sculpture Contemporaine, Paris, France (1973).
