ORLANDO, FL.- When one conjures up romantic images of powerful rulers and mysterious mighty empires, it is usually in reference to the art and history of the ancient Americas. Get a glimpse into the life and culture of numerous civilizations from the North, Central and South American regions. The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) just opened its next ongoing exhibition of art of the ancient Americas, titled Aztec to Zapotec.
Aztec to Zapotec includes art made prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus and the Europeans during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. It includes more than 150 works from the OMA's Art of the Ancient Americas Collection and represents a time period of more than 3,000 years. The exhibition consists of significant ancient works of gold, silver, jade, ceramic, shell and wood from more than 30 different cultural groups including the Aztec, Maya, Zapotec, Moche, Nasca and Inca.
