GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY in Glen Cove, NY will present their July Auction on Saturday, July 16th at 10am, with a focus on Fine and Contemporary Art, decorative arts, furniture, silver and Asian items. Previews will be held on Thursday, July 14tht and Friday, July 15th from 10am - 6pm.

Highlights this month include a selection of Abstract pieces by American artist Sam Francis (American, 1923 - 1994). Sam Francis occupies a prominent position in post-war American painting. Although associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement and Clement Greenberg's Post-Painterly Abstraction, unlike many American painters of the time he had direct and prolonged exposure to French painting and to Japanese art which had an individual impact on his work.

Featured will be an Untitled abstract monotype, with Windsor Newton oil and dry pigments, on rag paper, in an acrylic frame, signed in pencil lower right, dated 1979. Literature: Sam Francis catalog no. SF-14-04-79, published by the Institute of Experimental Printmaking, San Francisco, 1979, in collaboration with Garner Tullis. Purchased from Andre Emmerich Gallery in 1979. Comes with original bill of sale. [Sheet: 31" H x 25" W; Frame: 33 3/8" H x 28" W]. Estimate $20- $30,000, along with a Sam Francis (American, 1923 - 1994): Untitled abstract acrylic painting on rag paper, 1979, in shades of deep blue. Not signed. Literature: Sam Francis catalog no. SF-79-166, published by the Institute of Experimental Printmaking, San Francisco, 1979, in collaboration with Garner Tullis, also purchased from Andre Emmerich Gallery in 1980. Another stunning piece is the Henri Fantin-LaTour (French, 1836-1904) Floral Still Life, still life of flowers, oil on panel. Signed upper left and dated 1861. Original bill of sale from Albert duVannes, 39 East 57th St. NY. to R. Von Oesen dated March 27, 1927 will accompany this lot, along with an appraisal for the Estate of Kathryn Oesen completed on August 1, 1976 by William Doyle, NYC. [Art: 17" H x 11 1/2" W; Frame: 20" H x 15 1/2" W]. Estimate $12-$18,000.

Also offered is a Romare Howard Bearden (American, 1911-1988): "Prevalence of Ritual", portfolio of 5 screenprints, including "Salome", "Delilah", "In The Garden", "Prologue to Troy", and "Noah, Third Day" produced by Cordier & Ekstrom and Iver-Sillman, Inc.; numbered HC 2/37, printed by Sirocco Screenprinters, 1974, each pencil signed by Bearden, dated '74, each matted and framed (three in metal frames, two in silver gilt frames). Literature: "From Process to Print: Graphic Works by Romare Bearden", San Francisco, 2009, pp 95-99. [Image: 36" H x 29" W; Frames: 41" H x 34" W to 50" H x 43" W ]. Estimate $15-$25,000 and an After Caravaggio (1571-1610) "John the Baptist". Mid 18th century, relined. Fine gilt wood frame by Lowy. The original is in the Musei Capitolini, Rome. [Art: 52" H x 40" W; Frame: 60 1/2" H x 48 1/2" W]. Estimate $5,000 - $8,000.

Asian decorative items will include a Chinese Qianlong Tea Dust Glazed Bowl (1735-1796) tea dust porcelain glazed bowl. [3 ½” H x 7 ½” Diam.]. Estimate $7,000 - $10,000 and in the silver arena is an exquisite pair of Buccellati Silver Water Pitchers, sterling silver Italian water pitchers by Buccellati, with bamboo handles. 46 ozt. Inclusive. [9 ¾” H x 10” W x 5” D]. Estimate $4- $5,000.

After more than four decades based in Manhattan, Roland Auctions relocated to Long Island’s North Shore, the historic “Gold Coast” in 2018 where they also do auction consignments and offer appraisals.
