MOTREAL, CANADA.-The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts presentsa this Wednesday, October 12, a lecture by Émile Témime, emeritus professor of contemporary history, University of Provence, at 6 pm – in French at the Maxwell Cummings Auditorium, 1379 Sherbrooke St West. Free admission. The latter half of the nineteenth century saw the rebirth—or invention—of a traditional Provence (Arlesian folklore, for example), and there was an attempt to breathe life into a culture increasingly consigned to the past (Mistral and the Fébrilige). While this image persisted for a long time, the real Provence was radic ally changing into a meeting ground for a growing diversity of people and cultures.
The Museum thanks the Consulate General of France, Quebec City, and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their assistance with the presentation of this programme. This lecture is presented in collaboration with Les Belles Soirées et Matinées de l’Université de Montréal.
