Artists Talk About Their Works

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.-This Sunday, October 23 at 1:30 pm, artist Carol Jackson will speak about her piece "Ashland Lock (peer)" in the first of three Artist Talks at the Smart Museum of Art. The series brings several Chicago-based artists to the Smart to speak about their work in context with other art on view at the Museum. Jackson will look at her 2002 piece "Ashland Lock (peer)" and will discuss other works in the Smart Museum collection that relate to her interests and practice.

The Artist Talk series continues on October 30 with Richard Hull and concludes on November 6 with artists Brennan McGaffey and Temporary Services. Hull, a faculty member at the School of the Art Institute, will speak about his 1983 painting "All Balance" in context with other works on view from the Smart Museum collection.

A week later, in conjunction with the exhibition "Beyond Green: Toward a Sustainable Art," McGaffey and Temporary Services will demonstrate their collaborative piece "Audio Relay," a portable, functional sculpture that includes a radio transmitter and ever-growing archive of experimental audio works. The artists will talk about the piece in relation to works in the Smart's permanent collection, including Marcel Duchamp's museum-in-a-box, the "Boite-en-Valise."
