The Saved Tour Janette Parris with Going South
Janette Parris.

NORWICH, UK.-Janette Parris is a visual artist who uses narrative and live performance in her work. The narratives focus on contemporary urban experience. Story lines within the narratives range from relationship break-up to post graduation blues set in locations as varied as greasy spoon cafes, F.E colleges, magazine offices and art world private views. Using narrative and humour to deal with issues such as unemployment and disenfranchisement gives her practice a challenging identity. The work utilises popular genres i.e. Soap Opera, Stand-up Comedy, Cartoon Animation, Musical Theatre and more recently Live Music. She deliberately uses popular formats to allow immediate recognition of the worlds created by these fictional forms.

The Saved Tour follows a sell out performance at Hoxton Hall and a performance sponsored by the London Underground Art Project at Tower Records Piccadilly Circus, Going South now coming to Norwich for this very special one-off performance. Celebrating and acknowledging a concert set within the splendour of Norwich Cathedral the band will be performing popular songs with religious themes.

Going South features the vocal talent of Janette Parris who possesses one of the most original and distinctive black female voices in the country.

In conjunction with the performance at the Cathedral, Norwich Gallery presents a solo exhibition of the work of Janette Parris. Referencing painting, film and theatre, Parris creates a three dimensional representation of the performance, where viewers may wander around the exhibits and take the stage with the musicians of Going South before the big night.

Norwich Gallery welcomes everyone to the Cathedral for the night of the 27th October at 7.00pm. The performance will be followed by a reception held at Norwich Gallery 8.00pm to 10.00pm. Footage of The Saved Tour will be webcast from 10.00pm.
