Light Up Queen Street, London.

LONDON, ENGLAND.-This winter stunning light installations created by artists will illuminate the City of Londons Queen Street area. Four internationally acclaimed contemporary artists Susan Collins, David Ward, Mark Lewis and Tim Head - have been commissioned by the Corporation of London to create these new artworks which draw attention to the citys streetscape, buildings and history.
Underglow, by Susan Collins, literally lights up the world beneath our feet the artist has discovered a unique way to illuminate around twenty drains in the area with LED lights, revealing the complex of tunnels which runs beneath the City by giving the drains an ethereal glow of vibrant colours.
Float, by Tim Head, consists of brightly coloured pixels of light that will slowly rise and fall across the ornate stucco façade of the building on the junction of Queen Street and Cannon Street. The work echoes the exchange and flow of business and commerce, the movement of people and traffic and the passage of the Thames and underground rivers through the city.
For his work Rush Hour, Morning and Evening, Poultry Lane, Mark Lewis has filmed the elongated shadows cast by commuters in the Citys morning and afternoon rush hours. Inverted and projected larger than life in the Queen Street area, these shadows will become a moving tableau presenting the familiar in a new and mesmerizing way.
In Nocturne a word which describes certain forms of music and painting related to evening or night time - David Ward combines birdsong with an image of the night sky. He transposes sounds of a summer woodland into the winter evenings in Whittington Gardens/College Street accompanied by a projection of the Pleiades star constellation onto the adjacent St.Michael Paternoster Royal Church.
Queen Street EC4, close to St.Pauls Cathedral and Cannon Street, runs from the Guildhall to the River Thames. Tube stations: Monument, Bank, St Paul's, Mansion House, Cannon Street.
