Arte Latino At The Palm Springs Desert Museum |
PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA.- The exhibition “Arte Latino: Treasures From the Smithsonian American Art Museum” opens today at the Palm Springs Desert Museum. This show is a window into 200 years of Latino art in the U.S. and it is a traveling historical survey. This is its only Southern California stop. The exhibition will include 66 paintings, sculptures and photographs by mostly Spanish-speaking artists who settled in America. Crossing the decades, the works range from an 18th century carved devotional crucifix to a 1967 painted mahogany altar by Chicano artist Emanuel Martinez.
