|
BEIJING.- China´s Ministry of Culture has created a special commission made up of more than 200 chinese art experts to help combat the escalated number of fake works of art. The MOC will help the public and collectors in general evaluate and give advice about works of art. The Ministry of Culture has established a website at www.365ccm.com. There are 68 million Chinese art collectors in the country who spent $1.25 billion dollars in 2004. Vice-director of the commission Wang Lijun said to news agency Xinhua, “the Chinese market was still in its fledgling stages, lacking the appropriate laws and supervision, warning the growing number of uneducated collectors could over-inflate the market.” Xinhua went on to report that “the commission will set up eight sub-commissions, each covering a specific medium or offering a specific service involving painting and calligraphy, jade and jewelry, metalwork, chinaware, technical testing, legal services and market consultation.”
