SEATTLE.- The Seattle Art Museum presents the exhibit American Art Deco and the Seattle Art Museum on view until October 16, 2006. The architectural design concept for the first Seattle Art Museum in Volunteer Park included modern sculpture as an integral part of both the exterior and interior decoration of the building. This exhibition features approximately 20 objects that were some of the first works of American sculpture to enter the museums collection, many of them purchased by the museums founding director, Dr. Richard Fuller, undoubtedly because they complemented the museum building. Important sculptures by many of the leading figures in what is now known as Americas art deco movement will be shown in this look back at the taste that informed the creation of Seattles best and most beloved art deco landmark. Included are dazzling examples by Hunt Diederich, Boris Lovet-Lorski, Alexander Archipenko and others.
