Marble Christ Attributed to Michelangelo |

BARCELONA, SPAIN.- Catalonian historian Anscari M. Mundó has just published a study where he attributes the marble Christ on the altar of the Montserrat church to Michelangelo. The study was published by Montserrat Abbey Publications under the title A Marble Christ by Michelangelo Buonarroti? in Catalonian and Italian. The sculpture has been at the Montserrat Abbey since 1958.
According to Mundó the work was created when Michelangelo was a youth between 1497 and 1498, just as he was about to sculpt The Piety that is located in the Vatican. Mundó states he used the same model for both works.
The marble crucifix that portrays Jesus in full body and naked had been acquired in Tome in 1920 by Bonaventura Ubach, a monk of the Montserrat Mopnastery under the petition of the abbey Antoni M. Marcet. Anscari M. Mundó employed a detailed style comparison technique.
