NEW YORK, NY.- Thierry Goldberg is now opening Friends & Family, a group exhibition of works by Nicolas Lambelet Coleman, Carlo D'Anselmi, Sally Kindberg, Rocio Navarro, Nicholas Norris, Natalie Terenzini, and Bwambale Wesely. The exhibition opens on July 27th, with a reception from 6-8pm, and will run through August 25th, 2023.

In Friends & Family, artists who have exhibited with the gallery over the past season converge, united by a single thematic underpinning: the concept of familiarity. Through a captivating dialogue on identity, community, and connection, the artists in the show offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of human experience.

Nicolas Lambelet Coleman creates paintings that skillfully command contemplation. Each work, which draws on an extensive understanding of art history and modern cultural symbols, exemplifies his astounding ability to transform everyday scenes into investigations of identity and object-hood for his viewers. His clever compositions are grounded in rich colors and gratifying strokes that reveal a reverence for his otherwise ordinary subjects.

Exploring the relationship between human body and the natural landscape, Carlo D'Anselmi depicts his statue-like figures in utopian natural paradises. Surrounded by wild flora and motionless fauna, his subjects refuse the strict dichotomy between man and nature. He honors this union in sunset golds, purples, and blues, gracing viewers with sensual, tender moments of a more earnest vision of the human spirit.

Sally Kindberg creates bewilderment within the banal through her dramatized renderings of ordinary objects. Expressing an unsettled realism, she expertly manipulates the limits of representing space, figure, and form. Her compositions relish in the animated materiality of reflective, warping surfaces. It is this enigmatic viewpoint that intrigues viewers and allows her to expertly interrogate the delicate interplay between the familiar and the foreign.

Rocio Navarro celebrates identity and self-conception through her portraits. Her paintings depict a snapshot of her own being at a specific moment in time, differentiated by the undulating and expressive patterns that adorn her clothing and background. These lively fabrics recall symbolism from her Mexican heritage, which she modernizes through her flattened, refined style. It is through these portraits that she not only captures her own essence but asks viewers to reflect on the complexities of their own.

Nicholas Norris invites viewers into vivacious spaces of comfort and intimacy. Soaked in highly-saturated colors and excited patterning, his works offer joyous alleviation from the sobriety of unadorned reality. These capacious rooms, inspired by those belonging to Norris's friends and family, rejuvenate a spirit of child-like buoyancy. His canvases knit nostalgia and exuberance into explosive expressions of human connection.

Natalie Terenzini's artistry unfolds in an investigation of the ineffable emotions intrinsic to the female experience. She unapologetically immerses herself in the persona of her alter-ego, creating self-portraits of the intimate, awkward, and reticent moments of female seclusion. Her vibrant palette and playful, cartoon-like strokes seductively draw the viewer in, but it is the profound and melancholic truths lurking beneath the surface that truly captivate. In her deft hands, the canvas becomes a realm where raw authenticity reigns, beckoning us to confront the many facets of womanhood with tenderness and unyielding honesty.

Texture takes the technical forefront in Bwambale Wesely's portraiture. Each painting is imbued with incredible depth and movement due to his dynamic impasto style. His works portray small gratifying moments of quotidian life through depicting the women in his family with a sincerity that viscerally captivates viewers. It is this combination that infuses every painting with a palpable sense of emotion and a profound appreciation for the beauty in ordinary existence.

Nicolas Lambelet Coleman (b. 1998, Durham, NC), currently lives and works in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He holds a BA in visual art and political science from Duke University. Coleman has had solo exhibitions at PM/AM, London; Thierry Goldberg, New York; 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, Marrakech; and Steve Turner, Los Angeles. His work was also included in group exhibitions at PM/AM, London; Andrea Festa, Rome; and Galerie Hussenot, Paris.

Carlo D'Anselmi (b. 1991, New York, NY) lives and works in Ridgewood, Queens. He holds an MFA in Painting from The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture, New York, NY and a BA from Saint Anselm College, Manchester, NH. D'Anselmi has had solo exhibitions at the Asia Art Center, Taipei; Thierry Goldberg Gallery, New York; The Cabin LA, Los Angeles; Pamela Salisbury Gallery, Hudson. His work has been features in group exhibitions at Ceysson & Bénétière, New York; , Kutlesa, Goldau; 11Newel Gallery, Brooklyn; Eve Leibe Gallery, London; PRIOR Artspace, Berlin; and Monya Rowe Gallery, New York, NY.

Sally Kindberg (b. 1970, Stockholm, Sweden) lives and works in London. She holds an MFA and a BFA from Goldsmiths College, London. Kindberg has had solo exhibitions at Public Service Gallery, Stockholm; Thierry Goldberg, New York, NY; Every Mooonday, Seoul; and Duve, Berlin. Her work was featured in group exhibitions at Rudolph Jansen, Brussels, Belgium; NEXX Asia, Taipei; Volery Gallery, Dubai; Long Story Short, Paris; Gallery Ascend, Hong Kong; and Tuesday to Friday, Valencia, Spain among others.

Rocio Navarro (b. 1991, Chihuahua, México) lives and works in Toulouse, France. She holds a BFA from TecMilenio University, Chihuahua, México. Her work was included in exhibitions at La Varangue, Vic Fezensac, France; Galerie d'Art Insolitudes, Pau, France; and at Les Milles Tiroirs, Pamiers, France.

Nicholas Norris (b.1991, Phoenix, AZ) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He holds an MFA from Hunter College, New York, and a BFA in painting from Maine College of Art. Norris has participated in exhibitions at Thierry Goldberg, New York; Quorum Quorum, Los Angeles; EKELY, Copenhagen, DK; Haus am Haus am Lützowplatz, Berlin, Germany; Hasenheide 9, Berlin, Germany; and Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen amongst others.

Natalie Terenzini (b. 1996, San Diego, CA) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art, and a BFA from the Laguna College of Art + Design. Terenzini has participated in exhibitions at Thierry Goldberg , New York, NY; Vin Vin, Vienna, Austria; Kutlesa, Goldau, Switzerland; PM/AM, London, UK; Monya Rowe, New York; and LIA programme, Leipzig, Germany, among others.

Bwambale Wesely (b. 1994, Kasese, Uganda) lives and works in Kampala, Uganda. He holds a BA in Art from Kyambogo University, Kampala, Uganda. His work was recently exhibited at Thierry Goldberg Gallery, New York; Band of Vices Gallery, Los Angeles; and at Taag Gallery, New York, NY.
