Pools of Light by Jeffrey M. Robinson.
|
CHICAGO, IL.- Pools of Light is a public art installation by Chicago artist Jeffrey M. Robinson. The inspiration for this project is the utilization of unused and empty public space and the transformation of it into an interesting and unique visual experience for all Chicago residents.
The installation consists of a drained Olympic diving pool at the Chicago Park District's Portage Park upon the conclusion of the 2006 public swimming season. The project will include the use of several banks of lighting units with LED color changers placed at the bottom of the drained pool, projecting light upwards. The colors will vary in hues every 3 minutes. The exhibition will be displayed from dusk until the park closes at 10 p.m. This public art installation will be on view from Sept. 16 - Sept. 23 2006.
This project is partially supported by a Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
Jeffrey M. Robinson is an artist in residence at the Portage Park Center for the Arts and has had work exhibited at The David Leonardis Gallery, The Art Club of Chicago and The Select Media Festival at The Iron Gallery. Additional audio and visual installations have been exhibited at Buddy Gallery, Highschool Gallery and The Trap Door Theatre.
