Cryptocurrency and Streaming Services: How to Use Bitcoin for Netflix and Spotify

Here's the thing: streaming platforms are hungry. Like, HUNGRY hungry. They will pull out all the stops, hire every marketing agency on the planet, and run free trials longer than your arm to get their hands on your hard-earned cash. They're pulling every trick in the book to get you locked in, and most times, it works.

And yet it's pretty ironic how these same media giants, despite being absolute wizards at siphoning off your paycheck, won't even think about taking your cryptocurrency. They'll happily reel you into those life-long agreements, but as far as your carefully stacked Bitcoin goes? Not interested.

For reasons that are part technical and part the result of their risk-averse ways, Netflix, Spotify, and their media pals aren't willing to directly let you pay for their services in cryptocurrency. Yet. They're obsessed with locking you into their system but somehow haven't warmed to the idea of pocketing your Ether.

Go figure.

But the key word here is "directly." Because the universe tends to find a way, in this case, a cheat code is no more complex than a simple gift card. The backdoor method gives you mainstream goodies through your beloved digital coin.

Crypto's here to spend, so you may as well use it…right?

How to Pay for Your Netflix Subscription with Bitcoin

It's Friday night. You've got your pizza, your blanket, and your perfectly arranged snacks. But instead of reaching for your bank card to pay Netflix for another month of uninterrupted streaming, you slide in like a tech rebel using Bitcoin instead.

Sound fun? Here's how you make it happen:

Step 1: Hit up a gift card marketplace

First, you need to visit a trusted website specializing in gift cards and conveniently accepts Bitcoin in return. Popular ones include CoinsBee.com Bitrefill, or Purse.io. For this walkthrough, we're going to use CoinsBee - a super easy, slick interface that does what it says on the tin.

Step 2: Browse Netflix gift cards

Once on the site, search for Netflix gift cards in the search bar. You'll see different values available, usually ranging between $15 and $100. Pick whatever works for your current Netflix binge plans.

Step 3: Select Bitcoin as your payment method

Once you've added the Netflix card to your cart, proceed to checkout. Instead of getting all personal with your credit card info, choose Bitcoin as your payment method.

Step 4: Redeem the gift card on Netflix

Go to Netflix.com or your Netflix app and enter the gift card code. This will cover however many months of your subscription the card's value corresponds to.

Step 5: Enjoy your show

It is done and dusted. Now it's just a matter of deciding if you'll watch something good… or just give in to whatever guilty pleasure trash-reality show has you hooked.

Using Bitcoin for Spotify: A Step-by-Step Guide

What's TV without the perfect playlist between episodes or when you're getting work done? This one's for all the music junkies and podcast addicts out there: paying for Spotify Premium with Bitcoin is a carbon copy of the process above:

Step 1: Find yourself a gift card marketplace

As mentioned, you need a platform that acts as a middleman between your Bitcoin stash and the streaming world. Sites like CoinsBee make it easy as pie.

Step 2: Locate the Spotify gift cards

Type Spotify in the search bar, and pick from a selection of gift card amounts. They usually range from $10 to $100, perfect for those long, winding months where only music and caffeine get you through.

Step 3: Pay with your Bitcoin

Choose the Spotify gift card amount you want and head to checkout. Instead of opting for the traditional Visa or PayPal, you'll (obviously) select Bitcoin as your payment method. CoinsBee will then do its conversion wizardry.

Step 4: Redeem the gift card on Spotify

Hop over to Spotify.com/redeem or into your Spotify account, then enter the code from your newly delivered gift card email. And you're good to go.

The Million Coin Question: Why Bother?

At this point, you might be asking, Why not just pay with a debit card?

Why mess around buying a Google Play gift card with crypto when I can just key in my usual info?

Fair question, but with an easy answer: Because crypto offers a bunch of benefits that boring old fiat currencies just don't.

First, there's the simple beauty of decentralized currency: no bank fees, no service interruptions, and complete control over your spending. Bitcoin isn't subject to international transaction charges or intermediaries taking a sneaky cut on every payment you make.

Another reason is anonymity and security. When you pay with Bitcoin, your financial data isn't dragged through a dozen servers. And if you've been holding crypto long enough, its value has probably climbed, and sitting on those gains does you no good.
You're paying for Netflix and Spotify anyway, so why not give your boring old bank balance a break?
