LONDON.- The Sam Josefowitz Collection: Graphic Masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn – Part II realised a total of £5,554,664 / $7,059,978 / €6,698,925, with sell-through rates of 100% by lot and by value, selling 156% over the low estimate. 80% of the works sold above high estimate, and 40% of new registrants to the sale were millennials or younger.

The auction was led by Christ crucified between the two Thieves: 'The Three Crosses' (1653) which achieved £1,250,000, a world auction record for the fourth state of 'The Three Crosses'. Many other world auction records were achieved during the sale. Among these are: The Entombment (circa 1654) (price realised: £428,400), Woman with the Arrow (1661) (price realised: £302,400), Christ and the Woman from Samaria: an arched Print (1657) (price realised: £157,500), which are all world auction records for these prints. Abraham entertaining the Angels (1656), selling for £151,200, set another world auction record for this subject.

Tim Schmelcher, International Specialist, Prints and Multiples, Christie’s London: “We are thrilled with the outstanding results achieved in today's auction of The Sam Josefowitz Collection: Graphic Masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn – Part II, building on the remarkable success of last year’s sale. This collection represents the most exceptional private ensemble of Rembrandt’s graphic works, distinguished by its extraordinary depth and rarity. The robust market for Old Master prints was evident in the records achieved for works such as Christ crucified between the two Thieves: 'The Three Crosses', The Entombment and Woman with the Arrow. We are delighted that bidders responded enthusiastically to Sam Josefowitz’s passion, connoisseurship and vision as one of the greatest Prints collectors of the 20th century. We look forward to the third sale of this fabled collection in December 2025.”
